A LOUIS XVI PERIOD FRENCH GILT BRONZE AND BLACK MARBLE FIGURAL MANTEL CLOCK WITH CALENDAR the case surmounted by a figure of Venus holding a small bird in her right hand away from the figure of Cupid beside her, the plinth base with scrolling acanthus and fruit and floral garland mounts, with a relief depicting six putti hunting a boar, raised on six, beaded toupie feet, the white enamelled dial with Arabic numerals, with a further track of numerals to the inside for days of the month, and with outer track marking the quarters, signed 'Schmit  A Paris', the twin train, flat bottomed movement with silk suspension and outside countwheel striking on a bell,  37cm high  A clock featuring the same bronze figures and with similar mounts but on a white marble plinth is illustrated in P. Niehuser 'French Bronze Clocks', p211.
